THE 2005 Top Ten Zhuhai Personalities, cosponsored by the Zhuhai Daily and Amway Zhuhai ,were presented to the public and lauded at the Zhuhai Holiday Resort Hotel Wednesday,March 8th.

They are: Capt Deng Wanlong, Zhuhai Police Vice Squad; Walter Strakosch, president and CEO of MTU Zhuhai; Zhong Bibo, marrow donor from the PLA Macao Garrison; Tim Dinwiddie, senior vice president of Flextronics Asia; Hong Xiuping, founder of Zhuhai Pinghe Academy and principal of GLV; Qiu Bojun, Zhuhai Kingsoft board chairman; Zhao Guangmin, board vice-chairman of Zhuhai Actions Semiconductor Co Ltd; Qian Qingquan, honorary president of Jinan University Zhuhai; Zeng Qiliang, 100-metre breast stroke Silver Medal winner at the 1998 World Swimming Championships in Perth, Australia; and Dong Mingzhu, general manager of Zhuhai Gree Electrical Appliance Inc..

Wang Haibo, board chairman of the Zhuhai Guojia New Macromolecule Material Co Ltd and "water retaining agent" developer; Li Tianzeng, vice secretary general of the Zhuhai Municipal Party Committee; Li Jing, Zhuhai-born 2005 Asia Table Tennis Tournament champion; Li Weikun, director of the Zhuhai Daily Photography Department; and Chen Deyu, presiding judge of Sanzao People's Court, won nomination awards.

Five hundred guests, including senior city officials Zhong Shijian, Huang Xiaodong, Yang Shuisheng, Deng Qunfang, Qian Wenlu and leaders from government departments and businesses ,were at the awards ceremony.

In a bid to highlight the glamour of local personalities, to demonstrate the vitality of the city ,and to spark the sense of responsibility and achievement, the event is the first of its kind since establishment of the SEZ. The outcome was based on public polls and expert evaluations, according to the sponsors. The ten personalities interpret the spirit of the city and what they achieved in 2005 was highly acclaimed and added luster to Zhuhai, the sponsors commented.

On behalf of the municipal Party Committee and government, Vice Mayor Deng Qunfang delivered warm congratulations to the winners, saying the glamour of their personalities is invisible but something rallies and impresses people with bits of what they do. The selection is of great significance for inspiring city values and exposing city spirit, she said. As the first year of the 11th Five-Year Plan period, this year will see joint efforts made by the government at all levels and citizens to make the city an extremely ideal place for living and venturing, she said.

Performances by winners of the China Gold Bell Award for Music Lu Haocheng and Tan Xuesheng as well as the Zhuhai Hansheng Art Troupe followed the awards presentation.
