"Around China" on CCTV4 is a cultural TV show which promotes China's wonderful culture and displays the development of modern China. "Around China" focuses on cities that have potential for development and cultural richness. Some Chinese organizations and people who represent China's future are also featured.
Last week, the romantic city of ZhuHai was highlighted and shown on CCTV4. It was the first time for this one of the "Top 40 tourist cities in China" to be reported on CCTV's International Channel. On April 26 and 27, the documentary, "ZhuHai Impression" , was aired and the program received favorable comment from global audiences. Three other documentaries in "ZhuHai Brief"-Yung Wing with young Chinese children students who studied in USA during the Qing Dynasty, A Fong and his formal residence and "At home in ZhuHai" were shown on CCTV one after another. Each program showed a new image of ZhuHai and surprised viewers with its perfect blend of Chinese and Western cultures and the harmony between nature and people. In fact, in early 1999, ZhuHai was granted the "International Award for Best Practices in Improving the Living Environment" by the U.N, ZhuHai being the only city in China receiving this award. It is also known as: "A National Garden City", "A Model City for Environmental Protection" and "the Cleanest City in China".
The development of high-tech and human resource education training has given the world a big surprise. ZhuHai combines a wonderful living environment and a long-standing splendid humanities record. A few well-known enterprises in China were reported on CCTV: Gree Air-conditioners, JinShan Software, and Gateway Language Village. The latter was given a long segment on the TV show. This English training school began in an abandoned karaoke building. Growth and development of the school in the past five years has been nothing short of a miracle. In June, 2003, it was selected as one of the "Top Ten Language Training Organizations in China" by four well-known web-sites in China.
GLV (Gateway Language Village) is such a good place to learn English that it is like paradise with its 3000 square meter teaching area and nearly 40 foreign teachers. More than 4000 students have graduated from the school and have had their lives changed by their experiences in it. All this reinforces the reasons why GLV was selected by the four websites.
What's drives GLV?
Alan Waterman, former Academic Manager at GLV, has travelled to many countries and has also worked as an engineer and marketing director at GE and AT&T. He says "GLV is unique in many ways. "
GLV is very unique.
Using a unique, full-time teaching method of Total Imersion in English (TIE) at GLV, students enter a world where only English is used, only English is spoken, only English is written. This holds true in both work and play combined with language training and cultural training. Total immersion not only enhances the language learning ability but also improves the person's communication skills. GLV's unique business English training system breaks down the limitation of language training. It incorporates the concept of modern management that lets companies utilize our students' capacities with international standards quickly. There are other unique things at GLV as well, such as the special "village" environment, available teacher resources and our mixing of cultures.
GLV's training method has attracted more and more people to GLV from all over mainland China as well as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and from as far away as Korea, Columbia and other countries. Through study at GLV, thousands of students have found ideal jobs or have gone abroad to study. Some have also immigrated overseas. Learning at GLV has changed their way of life from what it used to be. They think of GLV as their home where they can bridge the gap between Chinese and Western cultures and make their dreams come true.
The goal of Hong XiuPing, the founder of GLV, was to,"Merge with Eastern and Western cultures and create an international village." Ping has envisioned more for GLV : " This is not only a school, it is like an international city that has a real and total English environment for living, studying and entertaining. We are building a window to the world by attracting people of different cultural backgrounds from other countries. We are able to create a total immersion English-speaking island in China."
At the end of the TV show, the host wished ZhuHai a splendid future and hoped many Chinese and foreigners would find their ideal home in Zhuhai.
